| The Congress of Infection Control in Dentistry with Self-Care approach, co-partnered by Research Institute for Dental Sciences of Shahid Beheshti Medical University and Iranian Ministry of Health, was convened in Tehran at Olympic Hotel Convention Center on 13-16 January 2015. The target group of this congress which aimed at the importance of upholding dental infection control standards by emphasizing on Health, Safety and Awareness were all dental team members including dentists, dental hygienists, dental nurses, dental lab and dental radiology technicians as well as dental office secretaries. |

Infection control procedures are precautions taken in the health care settings to prevent the spread of diseases. As patients are treated by dentists in a very close quarters, appropriate protective measures should be taken by all dental staff due to prevent the spread of infection. Taking the infection control precautions helps patients as well as dental team to stay as healthy as possible. As a result, understanding the most updated standards to prevent transmission of infection in dentistry is highly essential for dental team members. |

In his opening remarks, IRIMC President emphasized that rendered dental services are one of the largest services provided in the national healthcare system. He said:” Dental infection control aims to raise dentists’ and dental staff’s awareness of transmission of infection in dental practice and provide the most recent protocols to prevent spread of diseases.” |
